Age is just a number.
That's what they say anyway. But that's not true. When you're looking for a new career, age is so much more than just a number, especially if your number is a little higher, like mine. You find yourself at the business end of a lot of bizarre assumptions: you'll likely drop dead from a heart attack at your desk, you may or may not fall asleep during meetings, you're unwilling to learn new things, you're not 'cool', you're counting down the days 'til retirement, not to mention the incontinence. A whole load of stuff that just isn't true.
The truth is, I can bring many valuable skills to the table.
I've been working hard for 30 years. In that time, I've been a DJ, a Cargo Operations Manager/Freight Forwarder, a Quantity Surveyor, an Energy Surveyor, an I.C.T. Technician and an I.T. Trainer. I've weathered many economic storms, such as the recession, all of which lead me to retrain and learn a bunch of new things. That's right.
I'm not scared of learning new things, in fact I thrive on it! If I didn't love it I wouldn't have used those storms as an opportunity to upskill and learn something else.
So what am I looking for? Well I'd love a job that really utilises my many skills and challenges me. I've worked in some incredibly fast paced environments but I'm equally at home somewhere quiet.
Currently, I help individuals and small businesses in my local community with their I.T. issues. Thinking about the newest stage in my career I'm open to any great opportunity. I'd enjoy getting back into any of the sectors in which I've worked previously, but am entirely open to being trained in something new.
I'm particularly interested in:
The Freight Industry
Having been a cargo manager and freight forwarder, I loved the pace of this industry. It's stressful, which is where I thrive! I am very experienced in all aspects of freight so would love to get back into it.
The Energy Sector
I have lots of experience in this sector, helping households become more energy efficient. I am very interested in renewable energy too as I feel that makes a real difference to the world.
Office and Project Management
I'm a kick ass office and project manager as I'm experienced in managing projects big and small. And admin is my middle name.
I.T. & Training
I have lots of I.T. and tutoring/mentoring experience. All my I.T. jobs were heavily customer service and client based so I'm great when it comes to dealing with all kinds of people.
Why not have a look at my CV and see if I could be an asset to your team?
The kind of experience that only comes with having been on the planet for more than 5 minutes.
Age really knows the value of working hard and commitment.
In a society where integrity is becoming less of a commodity, age knows it's still the best foundation for any long lasting relationship.
